I traveled to Ampilatwatja, located 350km north-east of Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory (NT) of Australia in early 2010. It is a "prescribed community" under the NT intervention. Most of the community members of Ampilatwatja feel that the Northern Territory Intervention measures introduced in 2007, in effect were geared to revoke their hard won right to land and have disempowered the communities. Most of the community members of Ampilatwatja feel that the Northern Territory Intervention measures introduced in 2007, in effect were geared to revoke their hard won right to land and have disempowered the communities. In July 2009, the Alyawarr people walked off from the prescribed area controlled by the government, and began to build a new community in their homeland.
